FURTHER READING

John Thompson’s extensive discussion of ‘The rise of mediated interaction’, the third chapter of The Media and Modernity (1995), provides a sobering discussion of the theoretical and historical background of ‘interaction’. Without mentioning the Internet or cyberculture, Thompson’s discussion is invaluable for its unravelling of the spatial and temporal conditions of interactivity in human communication. A text that draws on Thompson, Anthony Giddens and Bourdieu to explain the communicative forms of the Internet is Roy Slevin’s The Internet and Society (2003).
